The Tesla Model X from Tesla, Inc. is an all-wheel drive luxury car with electric drive. It was presented as a design prototype in Los Angeles on February 9, 2012 and has been delivered to customers since September 29, 2015. [4] [5] Tesla refers to the Model X as an SUV. Body and equipment[edit | Edit source]

The Model X can accommodate up to seven people. The second and third rows of seats can be reached through gullwing doors. These so-called falcon wings are two-part. They have a second joint parallel to the main joint above the window, which means that less lateral space is required when opening. When opened, the upper door parts opening the roof are vertical and the lower parts opening the car sides are horizontal. This allows standing upright next to the car under the open gullwing doors, whereby their lower parts do not protrude into the air. The Model X – like all Tesla models – has two storage spaces: the trunk in the rear and a frunk (front trunk). The rear trunk in the concept vehicle has a storage space of 745 liters. Folding the seats increases the trunk volume to over 1645 liters. The storage space under the bonnet offers a load volume of 150 litres. [6] As already known from the Model S, the Model X also has a 17" touch screen. [5]
The Model X is the first Tesla model to be available in a vegan version on request. [7]
A towbar for up to 2250 kg towing capacity is included in the basic equipment. As a result, rear carriers for bicycles or skis can also be attached, especially since no roof racks can be mounted due to the gullwing doors.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is the safest SUV ever tested by the agency. [8] Autopilot[edit | Edit source]
Tesla vehicles as of October 2014 have hardware for various driver assistance systems, which are referred to as "Autopilot". This includes Lane Keeping Assist (Auto-Steer) for expressways, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Braking (AEB). In addition, there is a parking assistant (Auto-Summon), which can also work without people on board, where this is allowed. Accident when autopilot is activated[edit | Edit source]
In March 2018, an Apple engineer died after his Model X rammed a concrete wall while the driver was playing video games on a smartphone while driving semi-automated. The NTSB's investigative report of the incident was submitted in February 2020. The agency stressed that more needs to be done to educate drivers of such vehicles about the limitations of the technology. [9] Battery and performance[edit | Edit source]
Tesla offers the Model X in two variants with several battery capacities. In all variants, two electric motors drive one of the two axles each. The P100D version, presented in August 2016, achieves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds with the optional "Ludicrous" mode, making it one of the most accelerating production vehicles in the world alongside the Tesla Model S. [10]
Since mid-January 2019, orders for the model variant with 100 kWh battery capacity alone have been accepted, and production of the cheaper basic models with a smaller battery volume is coming to an end. [11] [12] In April 2019, a facelift took place. It included improvements in fuel consumption through changes to the engines, cooling system, lubrication, bearings and transmission design, as well as fast charging with up to 200 kW. With the improvements, the cheap variants were available again. [13]
Tesla guarantees eight years of unlimited mileage for the Model X for battery functionality,[14] but not for capacity and performance that diminish over time as a result of use. For the durability of traction batteries, see also Service life and cycle stability of traction batteries.Technical data[edit | Edit source]
The Model X has independent suspension and from the 90D an air suspension as standard. [15] [16] Voting has improved over the years. Tesla manufactures the Model X in Fremont, California. The first vehicle was delivered there on 29 September 2015. [22] In 2016, the US agency NHTSA issued a recall after a production shortage.
