The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport pushes the limits of its range a little further by promising to cross up to 440 km/h, against more than 3 million euros.
New 2021 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport – When you're called Bugatti, you don't bother BUGATTI with the haunting 0 to 100 km/h that is a benchmark in the world of sports cars. The time to say it, this fateful bar is largely crossed by the new Alsatian missile turned towards aerodynamics, preferring directly to evoke its performance delivered from 0 to 200 km / h: 5.8 s. However, do not believe that the diva cuts short the conversation. On the contrary, it is keen to express itself up to widely prohibited speeds. A station wagon in the race for the V-max
In recent times, Bugatti had announced that it no longer wanted to outbid in the race at maximum speed. Probably upset by the record set by the SSC Tuatara (more than 500 km/h), the French firm decided to focus its efforts on the running gear of its Chiron, in favor of agility, to shine on the winding circuits. From this questioning was born the Pur Sport, limited to "only" 350 km / h in peak, but devilishly more efficient in curve than the rest of the range. We don't get remade
But chase the natural, it comes back to the gallop. With the Super Sport, Bugatti offers a descendant to the Super Sport 300+ which holds, since 2019, the record of V-max for a Chiron, with 490 km/h. An ultra-limited model of 30 copies that returns to us in 2021 in a more polished variant, however capable of reaching 440 km / h. To achieve this, the W16 with 8.0 l of displacement has been profoundly revised to gain 100 hp and see its power peak at 1600 hp. The modifications mainly focused on the turbocharger, oil pump and cylinder head with valve control, as well as the gearbox and clutch. Bird's flight
Truly dedicated to straight-line runs, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport increases the rotational speed of its engine by 300 rpm, up to 7100 rpm, while the maximum torque of 1600 Nm is now available between 2000 and 7000 rpm, compared to 6000 rpm previously. An optimization that allows it to improve its accelerations by 7% from 0 to 400 km/h, until reaching the maximum speed by lengthening the cars transmission of the seventh gear by 3.6%. Ponytail
To split the air, he also had to take care of his aerodynamics. And it is precisely from the Super Sport 300+ that it inherits its elongated overhang, of the "Longtail" type. 25 cm longer than the original Chiron, it "maintains the laminar flow on the body for as long as possible". This also allows it to enlarge the cross-section of its diffuser, whose breaking edge is moved higher in order to significantly reduce the suction generated at this location, and therefore the wind resistance. These developments forced engineers to split the central exhaust into two parts distributed at each end of the stern, with vertically aligned outlets. Bow lowered
The bow of the Chiron Super Sport is not to be outdone. It also benefited from a rereading of its specifications, embodied by air curtains located on the front corners, next to the air intakes, which allow air to be directed to the wheel arches, so that it flows as close and as long as possible on the sides of the car. While the nine ventilation vents on each wing refer to the 1992 Bugatti EB 110 Super Sport, their main function is to evacuate air pressure from the front wheel arches, thus creating aerodynamic negative lift on the axle. They are accompanied by additional outputs on the front wheel arches that help to further balance aerodynamic loads. 300+ daughter
Aesthetically, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport benefits from the front bumper of the 300+, as does the entire rear part, but is distinguished by its specific Y-shaped 5-spoke wheels. As an option, it is possible to replace them with magnesium wheels, from the Chiron Pur Sport, to lighten a little more the whole which, originally, already saves 23 kg compared to the classic Chiron.
Less extreme than the 300+, the Super Sport wants to be more bourgeois, on board, despite the unspeakable speeds with which it can cross. The interior gives pride of place to leather, polished aluminum, as well as carbon. However, it should be firmer, because its specifically adapted chassis has forced its progenitors to install harder springs. However, the piloted damping knows how to adapt to the way of driving to regulate the movements of chassis in six milliseconds. Up to 478 km/h ?...
Bugatti finally announces that it has developed new rubbers, in collaboration with Michelin. The Pilot Sport Cup 2 that fits the Chiron Super Sport are capable of driving continuously up to 500 km/h. A speed that the hypercar must be able to get closer to, when we know that a Chiron, initially limited to 420 km / h, can be unbridled electronically on request to reach 458 km / h, according to Willi Netuschil, its chief engineer. Therefore, wouldn't this Super Sport be able to approach 480 km/h? We are entitled to hypothesize this. New Bugatti Chiron Super Sport price
The first deliveries of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport will start in early 2022, against the modest sum of at least 3.2 million euros. That's a discount of 300,000 euros compared to the very exclusive 300+. For the moment, Bugatti does not mention the scale of production of its new baby.
